Thread: Yoghurts and pasteurisation

    Default Yoghurts and pasteurisation

Someone mentioned to me that purchasing commercial yoghurts for their probiotics is pointless because the probiotics are killed when pasteurisation takes place. Is this true or bunkum?

In any case, I am happy because I have found a place to buy raw yoghurt in the UK, because I find the taste of raw dairy to be superior to store bought stuff.

I think pastuerisation of the milk happens before the yoghurt is made so live cultures should be present.

When I make yogurt following Manulike's instructions I use pasteurised UHT milk and add biokult probiotic powder.
