Lets hope that doesn't cause a war against bats.
I take issue with let's blame the bats brigade because if it is not the bats and where is the evidence that stands the test of time, then it has to come down to human manipulation, human error or deliberate human action. Which human individual, group, Government or whole country wants to be tarnished, so lets blame something else.
They weren't blaming bats, saying we should learn from their defences? Unless I have seriously misread this...
No I don’t think you misread it Sarah but I’d bet that some will latch on to half the story and blame bats.

A very thought provoking article, but I worry for the poor bats, will ignorant humans all over the world go to war on these very useful creatures.

Bats are hallowed in England to the extent that no building works are permitted to be undertaken if they might disturb a bat without special measures being put in place.* Bat hotels (being one such measure) are springing up across the country in an attempt to keep bat corridors open. They are very well protected in law and hopefully won’t be affected by any change in public perception.
*This includes repairing works to listed buildings.

I'm thinking of where bats congregate in huge numbers in cave, back early last century it was believed that bats spread rabies and one farmer set a afire in a huge colony and destroyed millions of bats to his long term cost. Ignorance is nature's worst enemy.
