Can I have peanuts or peanut butter?

Q – Can I have peanuts/peanut butter?

A – Peanuts are officially legumes, not nuts. Peanuts contain 49g of fat and 16g of carbohydrate in a 100g portion (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/legumes-and-legume-products/4355/2). For the purposes of The Harcombe Diet, even though they are not nuts, they are best thought of as a nut. They are a natural mix food – nutritious – but best kept to Phase 3.

Peanut butter is similar. Per 100g, it contains 50g of fat and 24g of carbohydrate (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/legumes-and-legume-products/8011/2), making it a natural mix food and best avoided until Phase 3.
